Thanks to motion graphic in Singapore, I’m killing it as a business consultant. I went into consultancy because I got sick and tired of working for other people. I had some definite ideas about improving other businesses and wanted to see if I could make a living out of it. I figured if I didn’t make a go of this thing within a year, I’d return to the cubicle world I decided to leave. The worst thing that would happen is that I failed, but at least I tried to make a go of it. It’s the least I could do.
I made a smart decision that turned out to be a real winner, though. Instead of pitching my services through some old and boring power point presentation, I hired a company to make an explainer video of my services using state of the art graphics. I didn’t even think I was doing something groundbreaking when I decided to use this company, but it turns out that I’m probably one of the only people in my area of expertise who uses this mode of presentation. Everyone else stands up there and drones on and on through interminable slides filled with words.
I come in, play the video, and then ask if anyone has any questions. There are always a couple and then I get hired to do the job. I can’t tell you how many people have come up to me and profusely thanked me for not making them sit through yet another boring pitch done on slides. All the credit goes to the graphics company because they really created something beautiful that grabs potential clients. I’ve been hired at almost every single company where I’ve shown the video, and have actually had to turn down work because I’m so busy.
